Introduction
Welcome to my blog!
War is a field eliciting the interest of many, the commentary of some, and the analysis of few. Here, I would like to do all three.
I haven't just had a lifelong interest in the subject. Warfare is a topic I have followed academically and professionally. I joined the Canadian Army reserve while I was still in high school. Shortly thereafter, I embarked on a (Canadian) history degree. A short time later, I got bored - or rather very deeply frustrated, and took the opportunity to do two years of full time service.
This service took me all over Canada for course work and more general duties, and ultimately, Afghanistan, where I was a member of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Kandahar Province.
I must admit that my time in the military was not a happy one, but it did not diminish my interest in the subject of military affairs. I returned to my hometown university, switched my major to Military History, and enjoyed my refocused and successful studies.
My focus in those years were on subjects which I considered overlooked - Italian military history, warfare in Africa and South America, with an enduring interest in Canadian military history as well. At present, I'm much concerned with the ongoing civil wars in the Arab World and Middle East, and in the theory of counter insurgency warfare.
I hope you find this blog informative, provoking, and better still, interesting.
Best Wishes,
Adam
